This is the OLD blog.

Guess what! This is my OLD WordPress blog.

I’ve launched a new website (it’s now up at the usual address, http://www.joannabarnum.com) using a self-hosted version of WordPress, and I have a new blog rolled into that site.

All of these old posts will show up over there, but you won’t see new posts here after today.

If you’re subscribed via RSS or e-mail, you’ll need to visit the new blog and re-subscribe over there, if you’d like to keep receiving updates. And do please check out my new website and let me know what you think!

If you’re following an old link and winding up here… please come visit me at http://www.joannabarnum.com!

Maryland My Maryland t-shirts!

Speaking of Kickstarter, I’ve just launched my own pre-order for screen printed t-shirts with a version of my “Maryland My Maryland” illustration.

I used this system to facilitate a pre-order of the last batch of my Charles Darwin t-shirts, and it seemed to work really well for everyone involved.

Pledging to this Kickstarter is the ONLY way to get one of these shirts- I probably won’t be ordering any extras beyond what is funded through the Kickstarter. If you REALLY, REALLY don’t want to use Kickstarter, let me know, and I might be able to add an extra shirt to my final order for you, but that will only work if the Kickstarter campaign is successfully funded. If it’s not, there won’t be a run of shirts (Kickstarter only charges backers if the project goal is successfully met).

The shirt will be printed in 3 colors on a black Gildan “soft style” t-shirt. I’ve used these base shirts for other projects and they’re really soft and nice. You can also order a zip up hoodie with the design on the back!

Go check it out! You have until November 1st to order. Shirts will be printed and shipped in time for holiday gift giving.

Geek Love anthology Kickstarter

I love the DIY production ethic that Kickstarter fosters. I’ve produced, participated in, and supported a number of Kickstarter based endeavors, and I love that something like this exists. The website allows ordinary people to contribute funding (a little or a lot) to projects that artists and other entrepreneurs want to produce.

I am excited to be a part of Geek Love, a fun anthology of adult erotica with a “nerdy” theme. My illustration “An Evening At Home” will be included, and possibly some additional illustrations. A small sneak preview of my illustration is below.

(Please note that this is an adult anthology. Although there is no explicit content on the Kickstarter page, some of the words and pictures there are a little naughty. You’ve been warned!)

Amazingly, the project met its primary funding goal within the first few days of the Kickstarter campaign, but it’s not too late to contribute, anyway.

The Kickstarter campaign will allow the hard copy of the book to be printed, and will also allow all contributing writers and illustrators to be paid for their work.

The project is being spearheaded by author and editor Shanna Germain. From the Kickstarter page:

“Geek Love. It’s nerdy, wordy and a little bit dirty. It’s 200 pages of geek-themed erotic stories, accompanied by full-color art and comics, all from some of the finest authors and artists in the industry.

Think of it as the comma sutra. As full-frontal nerdity at its finest. As the bestiary of geek sexuality, proving once and for all that there’s nothing hotter than geeks in their natural habitats.

Geek Love isn’t just smart and sexy. It’s also sex-, gender- and geek-positive. The stories and art in the collection showcase and support a broad spectrum of geeks, genders, body types, classes, races, abilities and sexualities…”

Maryland My Maryland, again

Most of the work from this series will be going up at Charmington’s (2601 Howard St., Baltimore, MD) tonight! If you didn’t get a chance to see it when it was at Truax Custom Frames, stop by and take a look, and have some great local coffee while you’re at it.

The work is also now all matted and FRAMED, if having to frame the work yourself was dissuading you from a purchase. The black frames really make the work pop!

The show will probably be up at Charmington’s for the next month or so. We haven’t set a formal close date yet.

Also, all small (8.5″ x 11″) print orders from the series are currently on sale for $8 (normally 10 or 3/$35). I have a large stock of prints I made for the Cromwell festival, which was mostly rained out, and I’d like to move some of them out of here! E-mail me at joanna@joannabarnum.com if you’d like to order some prints.

Other prints are still available for the usual prices.

Mini: 4″ x 6″- $5, or 4/$17 (glossy only)
Small: 8.5″ x 11″- ON SALE, $8 (sale prints are in matte only)
Large: 11″ x 17″- $30, or 4/$100 (glossy only)
