Based on a public domain photo of Poe, one of very few in existence.
We love Poe here in Maryland. 2009 marked Poe’s 200th birthday, and Baltimore, his resting place, has been celebrating him all year. The roses in the portrait are a reference to the “Poe toaster,” a mysterious figure who leaves roses and a bottle of liquor on Poe’s grave every year on his birthday.
See the original, along with Darwin and Wilde on my wall at Artdromeda in Pigtown, Baltimore from December 3-6.
