Doggie and The Renwick

Quick puppy portrait, and a painting of part of the outside architecture of The Renwick Gallery at the Smithsonian, for their anniversary postcard design competition. The actual text on the view I painted says “Dedicated To Art,” and the verdigris plaque has a bust in it, but I added the 40 and gallery name for the sake of the postcard design.

I used to hate painting architecture because it was too fussy and precise, but I’ve gotten a lot more comfortable with it over the past few years.

Phylo card game update

A while ago, I was asked to contribute some of my nature illustrations to Phylo, a creative commons nonprofit card game that educates children about biodiversity.

Phylo was recently featured in “Second Nature,” the children’s magazine of the Natural History Museum in London. My bald eagle card was shown in the article and in the set of starter cards included as a magazine fold-out.

If this project sounds interesting, you can contribute work too.
