Baltimore Humane Society Pet Memorial Ceremony

This coming Sunday, September 9, the Baltimore Humane Society will be hosting its first annual Pet Memorial Ceremony in observance of National Pet Memorial Day. The ceremony is for anyone who has experienced the loss of a beloved pet, no matter when or where the loss occurred. It will take place at Nicodemus Memorial Park at BHS’s location in Reisterstown, MD.

The ceremony will include readings and music.

I will also be present as a portrait artist creating quick sketches based on pet photos brought to the event. Portrait sketches will be $15, with 50% going to the Baltimore Humane Society. 10% of any larger pet portrait commissions initiated at or as a result of the event will also be donated.

The ceremony is free to attend, but an RSVP is requested. Find out more on the Baltimore Humane Society’s website.

Portrait progress

Here’s a preliminary drawing for a commissioned pet portrait. This is a good example of how I can create a portrait combining multiple reference photos of different pets, since it’s not usually possible to get them to cooperate in posing for photos.

And here’s the finished portrait of the little girl from the other day.
